Lam Dong Natural Tasting Notes

This extraordinary coffee opens with bright red fruit notes of red grape, cherry, and strawberry. Banana becomes prominent during the middle portion of the cup, along with darker, more jammy berry notes. The cup finishes with notes of marshmallow and cacao nibs.

About The Coffee Producer

Vietnam is the world's second largest coffee producer, however over 95% of Vietnamese coffee is Robusta, which tends to be quite unpalatable without the addition of considerable amounts of cream and sugar (often in the form of sweetened condensed milk.)

In addition, most of the Arabica produced in Vietnam tends to be of poor quality. So, this excellent quality arabica is an absolute rarity which we very much hope is an indication of development in the Vietnamese specialty market.

This particular coffee is the product of ~180 of the ~500 households that compose the Dung K’NO commune. The farms average less than two hectares and also produce staple crops for personal consumption.

Heavy On The Roast

Black Oak's "light roasts" have become progressively darker. Apart from a subtle marshmallow note on the finish, the flavor of this coffee is dominated by char. Disappointing given the high hopes I had based on the other glowing reviews. Perhaps it will mellow out and reveal some other flavors as a cold brew.

Surprisingly good

I didn't expect much from this coffee, but turns out it is pretty good. It is a little bit more bitter comparing to coffee from other regions, but nothing to worry about. It has its own remarkable flavor so I found myself preferring this coffee to another one I have on my shelf right now quite often.

Best Coffee in my Cupboard

Fruit notes up front, ending with hints of chocolate. What really stood out though was the mouthfeel. Perfect body, silky smooth- almost syrupy with the fruit notes. Reminded me of sipping on a good red wine! This was my first Vietnam coffee and hopefully it won't be the last!

Brewed my first cup this morning, and wow! I was literally jiggling the cup to get out the last drop. Intriguing, bright, and beautiful, this coffee is just as unique and enticing as the tasting notes suggest. Bravo, Black Oak--and thanks!
