El Chuzcal Tasting Notes
Each sip offers a bright burst of citrus, with notes of Meyer lemon and key lime that transition into the sweetness of pomelo and mandarin. The coffee then reveals hints of white grape and peach, balancing its natural sweetness.
Floral notes of jasmine and ylang-ylang add a subtle elegance, while a touch of honeysuckle enhances the overall flavor. As you continue to enjoy the cup, darker sweetness from caramelized peach and molasses adds depth, with a hint of pandan sugar contributing a unique and comforting sweetness.
About The Coffee Producer
Nestled in the picturesque Villamaria municipality of the Caldas department, Finca El Chuzcal stands as a testament to Colombia's rich coffee heritage and dedication to sustainable farming practices. Co-owned by growers Augusto Triana Cortés and Ciro Néstor Cruz Ricaurte, this farm is renowned for producing some of the rarest and finest coffee varietals, including the distinguished Gesha, which is celebrated throughout the specialty coffee world. This Gesha varietal stands out not only for its noteworthy flavor profile but also for the craftsmanship required for the cultivation of this notoriously finicky plant.
At an altitude of 6100’ above sea level, Finca El Chuzcal benefits from a unique microclimate that provides conditions ideal for growing exceptional coffee. Augusto and Ciro are passionate advocates for superior coffee quality and sustainability. The Gesha coffee produced here is noteworthy for its ability to showcase refined and complex flavors that result from the careful interplay of altitude, climate, and meticulous farming methods. In 2011, Finca El Chuzcal was recognized as part of the "Coffee Cultural Landscape," a UNESCO World Heritage Site that recognizes the cultural significance and unique geography of Colombia's coffee-growing regions.
As you savor this remarkable coffee from Finca El Chuzcal, you are not only experiencing extraordinary flavors but also partaking in a story of passion, craftsmanship, and a commitment to preserving the ecosystem that makes coffee possible.
