How will the coffee change throughout the year?
We put together a graphic to show our selections from last year. As you can see, we feel that the best coffee in the world comes from East Africa and Ethiopia. You can expect almost half of your coffees to come from East Africa.
For other selections we find the best seasonal coffees from Asia, South America, and Central America. The pairing of two distinct styles of coffee can help appreciate each for its respective flavor profile.
We will often emphasize single-origins whose producers are working proactively to improve the quality of life in their communities. For example, our Female Farmer Series. In addition to sourcing from 100% female owned coffee farms, which receive large premiums for their coffee, 10% of all profits from these coffees go to support Grounds for Health. Grounds for Health screens for and treats cervical cancer in coffee producing regions.
Who Is Black Oak?
We’re a small, tight knit team from a beautiful small town in Northern California. From our humble beginnings, our coffees have won many awards in national roasting competitions. We are the first back to back champion at the Golden Bean North America roasting championship. We were a finalist in the 2017 Good Food Awards.
Our head roaster, Steve Cuevas, was the 2017 US Taster’s Cup champion. In 2018, two of our crew qualified for the finals in the Taster’s Cup and one competed in the Brewer’s Cup Finals. We screen all our selections side by side, blind, and in multiple rounds. We always give our level best effort to bring you the very best without bias.
Perhaps most importantly (to us), we’ve developed a very loyal, very satisfied grass roots movement of coffee lovers from across the US and we work very hard to always stay inspiring, exciting and delightful.
Just Two Bags Per Month?
It’s true: if you drink a lot of coffee, The Black Oak Tasting Club isn’t meant to be your only source, per se. The bottom line is that two bags allows us to offer free shipping on all deliveries.
If two bags is all you go through in a month, perfect, you only need to drink the best. If you go through more, no problem, you get 20% off any of our award winning coffees.
Many of our subscribers will re-order past months’ picks that they loved (at a fantastic value). Some will order our popular medium and dark roast blends to mix things up. Either way, all orders of two bags or more ship free.
What about freshness?
All Black Oak Tasting Club shipments are roasted to order. As soon as your coffee is roasted, we pack and prepare for shipment within 24 hours. Our bags ship in nitrogen (an inert gas which replaces oxygen in the package) flushed one way valve bags. This means that your coffee will stay fresh at least until your next shipment arrives. Once you open the bag, we recommend that you consume it in less than two weeks for optimal flavor.
