Water temperature is a fun way to tweak flavors. Here are general guidelines:
Medium & Dark Roast Water Temperature
Best at 200°F to boiling. Higher temperatures enhance chocolate notes, body, and complexity.
Light Roast Water Temperature
More variation. Different temperatures reveal different aspects of the coffee.
-
-
Floral, delicate coffees (e.g., Ethiopian Yirgacheffe): Try as low as 180°F.
-
Sugary, full-bodied single origins (e.g., Guatemalan): Go hotter (205°F).
-
Most single origins taste best around 195°F.
Serving Temperature
Drinking coffee too hot diminishes its flavor and subtlety.
-
Ideal drinking temperature: 100–140°F
Especially for light roasts, allowing them to fully express their flavors.
