Los Papales Tasting Notes

This coffee opens with delightful notes of ripe cherry and strawberry. A bright malic acidity joins muddled berry flavor to create a flavor akin to a tropical punch. The coffee finishes with the impression of chocolate covered dried fruits.

About The Producer

Finca Los Papales, located in Jinotega, Nicaragua, has been managed by the Angelina Lopez family for over a century. Generations have worked the estate together, currently producing Rainforest Alliance certified green coffee. The coffee produced on the estate is also milled  and dried on premises to ensure that the Lopez family has more control over the resulting coffee, which helps ensure better quality.

This particular coffee is composed entirely of the Red Catuai variety which has very good cup characteristics when grown at high altitudes. Red Catuai is also a favorite amongst coffee growers in this region because of its dwarf size which allows for easier hand harvesting and maintenance.

Jinotega is both a department and a city located in the northern highlands of Nicaragua. It is known for its stunning landscapes, rich agricultural resources, and cooler climate. The region is primarily known for its coffee production, with a significant number of coffee estates and cooperatives operating in the area. The high altitude, volcanic soil, and favorable climate conditions make it ideal for cultivating high-quality coffee varieties and unique flavor profiles.

Maybe converted me to a light roast guy!?

We got to try this and the Roaster's Reserve this past weekend while visiting near Sabastapol, and both bags got ground up and consumed with the quickness! To be honest, I don’t consider myself a light roast drinker, and I guess I just went off the tasting notes on the bag and the heavenly smell coming out of it. Needless to say, this was a crazy good coffee and imagine anyone who buys a bag will be stoked. So glad I found Black Oak!
