Tasting Notes

The quintessential Peruvian coffee. Lonya Grande opens with crisp malic notes which lend to the impression of apple and grape. The sweetness of the coffee is that of a raw sugar or caramel, and balances both the bright fruit notes as well as the more bitter chocolate and herbal tones, which come later in the cup. Semi-sweet or darker milk chocolate notes round out the cup.

About The Producer

Lonya Grande was grown by 35 of the roughly 300 farmers who make up the Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Juan Marco El Palto, which specializes in fair trade organic coffees.

The farms that produced this coffee are all smallholder farms, with staple crops interspersed amongst coffee. They are all located in the highlands of the Lonya Grande district, which is part of the Amazonas department in northern Peru. Coffee is relatively limited in this area, as most Peruvian coffee cultivation occurs in the neighboring Cajamarca department. As such, the terroir is fairly unique for coffee production.
