Kenyan coffees are world renowned for their sweetness, but even given those high standards, the sweetness in this coffee is in a league of its own. It opens with a dark sweetness and syrupy body making it akin to molasses or a heavy brown syrup. As the cup continues the sweetness is joined by the flavor and mellowing acidity of a fruit reduction including plums, currants, and cranberries.
Producer Notes: Kenya Kirinyaga Rungeto Peaberry GrainPro is sourced from family owned farms, located in the fertile volcanic foothills of the second highest peak in Africa: Mount Kenya. Farms are organized around the Kii, Karimikui, and the Kiangoi coffee mills. The farm plots that compose this lot are so small that measurements are not based on acreage, but on numbers of individual trees. Farmers who process their coffee at the Kii, Karimikui, and the Kiangoi mills are members of the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, which was established in 1953. The Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society operates these three mills, which have earned an exceptional reputation for exceptional quality coffee.
